Clarity for Cornwall’s biggest build

Langarth Garden Village is one of the largest developments in Cornwall’s recent history, a major new community planned on the outskirts of Truro. With a project of this scale came public interest, political scrutiny and the challenge of building trust across a wide and often sceptical audience. Communications had to be clear, measured and honest, from early masterplanning through to detailed infrastructure updates.

The programme required a consistent voice that could navigate complexity without alienating the public. It wasn’t just about delivering information, it was about helping people understand what was happening, why it mattered, and how they could have a say. My role was to support the client in keeping that conversation steady, open and well judged across multiple channels and stakeholder groups.

Solutions
& Approach

I provided flexible, senior-level comms support through key phases of the project. That included planning messaging, preparing media releases, drafting materials for public events and translating complex infrastructure proposals into language people could relate to. I worked closely with technical consultants, engagement leads and the council’s comms team to make sure all content felt aligned, credible and human

Much of the work involved finding the right tone. I helped prepare spokespersons, create FAQ materials, support social media content and offer advice during moments of public concern. I also helped refine written copy and sense-check messaging when time was short. My role was to keep the voice steady, grounded and easy to trust. The goal was always clarity and reassurance without spin.

Outcomes & Impact

The communications strategy helped build public understanding and reduce friction around key moments, including consultations and infrastructure milestones. Stakeholder confidence improved, and media coverage remained balanced and fair throughout the more complex phases. Feedback from councillors and officers consistently referenced the tone, clarity and professionalism of the messaging.

For a project of this visibility, outcomes are measured not just in headlines but in trust earned and tension reduced. By supporting consistent, clear and measured communication, I helped maintain a sense of momentum and gave the client confidence that they could keep people informed without adding pressure or confusion. It meant they could stay on the front foot, even when public opinion was mixed, and maintain credibility with both internal teams and external audiences.
